Belgrade, December 26, 2022
On Monday, December 26, a ceremony was held in Belgrade to award scholarships to Serbian students awarded by the Studenica Foundation, an organization of the Serbian diaspora in America. At the ceremonial signing of the contract, thirty-eight talented young students were presented who were selected in the competition and thus became holders of the Studenica Foundation scholarship for the academic year 2022/23, based on their exceptional individual achievements in schooling, the awards they won, their financial needs, as well as their involvement in helping the community to which they belong.
The decision on the selection of candidates this year was also extremely difficult, because there are many more students who deserve to become scholarship holders of the Foundation than the scholarships that we award, considering that the competition received over five hundred applications.
This year, the desire was to help a greater number of students from Kosovo and Metohija, as well as from the Republika Srpska, and care was taken to ensure that students from different faculties from all over Serbia, as well as our students abroad, were evenly represented.
The annual scholarship amounts to one thousand five hundred US dollars in dinar equivalent. The Studenica Foundation, as an organization of the Serbian diaspora, had the honor of collecting funds for this year's scholarship in partnership with the Serbian Philanthropic Association (SPA) from New York. This year's ceremony on the occasion of awarding scholarships and signing contracts with students was held in the premises of the Studenica Foundation in Krunska Street in Belgrade.
A message from the founder and president of the Studenica Foundation, Mr. Miroslav Majkl Đorđević, sent from California, who told the students that he sincerely regrets not being there with them to share this solemn moment and event on their way to education and training. He wished them every success on that path, stressing that they are "a great strength of our nation, and an unparalleled potential for its better future."
"I draw your attention to the fact that this future will not be easy," adds Michael Đorđević, "because many universal and traditional spiritual and moral values of our people need to be restored, without which true freedom and progress towards a better life are not possible." He said. and that this most important responsibility rests on them and future generations.
The president of the Board of Directors, Dr. Slavka Drašković, and the member of the Board of the Foundation in Serbia, Dr. Žaneta Đukić Perišić, spoke at the ceremony. They expressed satisfaction with the large number of successful and talented young Serbian women and men, who not only graduate from university with the best grades, but also engage in various activities to help their surroundings, the local community and society as a whole. Dr. Drašković reminded that the Foundation was founded with the belief that education and investment in young people are the basis of the development of society and that, by helping them, we will influence the future of Serbia with Kosovo and Metohija and Republika Srpska in the best way. Therefore, the scholarships of the Studenica Foundation represent not only a material stake in their future, but also a pledge of the general prosperity and future of Serbia and the Serbian people. Dr. Đukić-Perišić pointed out that the Studenica Foundation encourages students to help each other and get involved in social work, thereby spreading the ideas of philanthropy themselves.
Scholarship recipients come from faculties that study various scientific fields, and their ideas and projects that they implement together with the Foundation confirm to us that they are truly the future of our country. They share their career successes every day, and on the "(S)MISAO" Foundation blog they share student experiences, advice and interesting student stories through adequate content. In the following period, the Foundation wants to support the scholarship holders' initiatives to connect with Serbian students in the world, and to bring the Serbian diaspora closer to the mother country, Serbia.
