This scholarship is awarded for the best essay of a young person from Serbia on a variety of topics. It was designed as the Stela Jatras Literary Contest in memory of a Greek American, diplomat, analyst and writer who fought for truthful and evidence-based reporting on Serbia. The three-year scholarship encourages research and essay writing, corroboration of evidence, sources, and facts, as well as literary skill.
Stella Jatras's dedication and persistence in defending the universal values of truth, justice and the principle of objectivity in politics and media reporting, and especially her engagement against the Western media bias in the events of the 1990s, inspired this scholarship. The project was funded by grants from Mr. Predrag Pecic from California.
