''QUEENS OF CHESS": TRADITIONAL TOURNAMENT GATHERS 60 GIRLS IN A CHESS COMPETITION
At "Milan Đ. Milićević" Primary School in Medaković 3, on Sunday, March 31st, a chess tournament for girls named "Queens of Chess" was held, bringing together 60 students from the early grades of Belgrade's elementary schools.
The tournament has been organized for the ninth year in a row by the ''Delfin'' chess club under the auspices of the Studenica Foundation, aiming to promote women's chess and empower girls. All participants were awarded medals, while the winners also received trophies presented by the scholars of the Studenica Foundation.
Playing chess is significant for children's development as it stimulates their logical, cognitive, intellectual, and emotional abilities. From an early age, chess fosters a desire to play and contemplate, while nurturing a sense of discipline.
"Queens of Chess" tournaments have been held since 2016, with more than one thousand three hundred girls having participated in these events so far. Such initiatives make chess accessible and appealing to all generations, empower girls, and pave the way for future chess champions.
