Marie Shobe
Marie Shobe (nee Djordjevic) has been a Board Member and Director of Studenica since its inception.
Additionally, she was part of the “Learn About Serbia” project, which aimed to introduce the history,
culture, customs, traditions, and Serbian ways of life to the diaspora youth.
She also has been a very active member of the Serbian Unity Congress (SUC) from its beginning, and a
member of the SUC Board of Directors multiple times, and a member of the SUC International Advisory
Board (IAB).
Marie has Bachelor of Arts Degrees in both Anthropology and History from The University of Southern
California, and a Masters of Arts Degree in Anthropology and Museum Studies from the University of
Denver. She worked as the Curator of the Healdsburg Museum (north of San Francisco) for nearly a
decade. Her job included creating educational programs and content for schools and various
organizations and managing the volunteers. Her work experience also includes teaching art history and
art to elementary school children.
Marie has a true affinity for both non-profit work and volunteerism. She believes in a life of service, a life
in which you work to make some part of the world you inhabit better. She spent many years serving on
various boards and in groups related to both elementary and high school activities.
In 2017 she received the Golden Acorn Award, a prestigious Washington State PTA (Parent/Teacher
Association) award that is given out for exemplary and outstanding volunteerism and service to PTA.
Marie Shobe (Djordjevic) is the first-born child of Miroslav Majkl Djordjevic. She was very close to her
father, and continues his life work, considering, as he did, Studenica to be one of his most important
legacies.
She lives near Seattle, Washington, USA with her husband and has two university-aged children.
