Despite leaving his native Belgrade as a young man in 1956 and spending his life in the United States, he maintained a strong connection to his homeland, dedicating his efforts to the advancement of Serbia. He belonged to the ranks of those individuals who lived their lives believing that every person is duty-bound to their homeland.
Continuing the Serbian tradition of philanthropy, which has roots dating back to the Middle Ages, Miroslav Djordjevic joined the ranks of Serbian philanthropists who, through the establishment of endowments, community care, and support for various activities benefiting the "fatherland", left an indelible mark on their native land.
He enriched Serbian society through decades of diligent work in Washington "for the Serbian cause" and through assistance to Serbia for its renewal and growth via the Congress of Serbian Unity, especially by enabling Serbian students displaced from the war-torn areas of the former country, from Mostar, Sarajevo, later Peć and Prizren, to complete their education. He continued these efforts until his passing through the Studenica Foundation, an endowment he established. This foundation provided scholarships not only for students in Serbia but also for the children of fighters who sacrificed for the Republic of Srpska, as well as Serbian students from Risna, Podgorica, and Zagreb. Through the Studenica Foundation, he awarded scholarships to over 2,000 Serbian students and managed a special fund that facilitated approximately 300 of the most promising Serbian young men and women to complete their doctoral studies at prestigious American universities such as Harvard, Yale, and Columbia.

He firmly believed that education was the key to a nation's development and, through the Studenica Foundation, funded various projects related to the development of science, education, and enlightenment in Serbia.
Furthermore, he worked on strengthening the ties between Serbia and the United States. Through his business success in America and work ethic, he became a role model and inspiration for businessmen both in Serbia and in the Serbian diaspora. As his legacy, he entrusted us with the Studenica Foundation, urging us to continue supporting education and enlightenment in Serbia, as well as the education of Serbian youth. |
