Dr Lazar Velicki
CARDIOLOGIST AND PROFESSOR WHO RETURNED TO SERBIA
Dr. Lazar Velicki graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad in 2005 as the best student of the generation (Summa Cum Laude). The following year, he was employed at the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica. He received his PhD in 2011 on a topic that explores stratification and statistical risk assessment in cardiac surgery.
During 2013, he became a specialist in general surgery, while in 2017 he became a subspecialist in cardiac surgery. He has participated in more than 50 conferences and professional gatherings in the country and abroad. He is the author of more than 80 papers published in renowned domestic and international journals. He actively participates in numerous national and international scientific projects related to the field of cardiovascular medicine.
He has won a number of awards and scholarships including the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship which has enabled him to specialize in the field of mechanical circulatory support at the famous Texas Heart Institute (Houston, USA) under the mentorship of Dr. Bud Frazier.
His area of scientific research includes risk assessment in cardiac surgery, as well as computer modelling in the field of cardiovascular medicine. His field of professional interest is in the domain of adult cardiac surgery.
He is a member of the European Association of Cardiovascular Surgeons. During 2019, he launched an educational site on cardiovascular diseases (www.drvelicki.com). In addition to being employed at the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery IKVBV, Dr Velicki is also an associate professor at the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad.
